Default What is safe minimum voltage before use?

I just bought a 1980's Club Car. It had sat unattended for a few years. I put it on the charger for 8 hours and the battery pack reads 39V at the charge receptacle. I have the manual and have read through the stickies and I can't seem to find the answers to the following question. Is there a minimum voltage that the battery pack should have before driving? My manual gives a minimum specific gravity but not a voltage.

The battery is sulfated and is toast. That means it cannot take a charge, or deliver a discharge. I would bet if you took the SPG it would be close to 1.

After being left in a discharged mode for awhile, they're done. Time to get new batteries. The cart will not run under 35v.

Yes, What part of my statement was unclear?

After a couple more hours I saw 41V. I drove it 5 feet and it stopped. Then it was down to 37V already. I've heard that sometimes you might be able to revive old batteries by charging/draining, charging/draining.

I guess I need new batteries. But is there any harm in trying this a few times?

Also, would anyone care to answer my original question? What is the minimum charge (in volts) my batteries should show before the cart can be driven?

Charging heavily sulfated or shorted battery cells can cause an explosion. It's your call.

That is about a 20% charge, the minimum it will run on and not for long. As was mentioned previously, a 100% charge is 38.2v after charging and resting for at least 1 hour.

Great. Thanks!

If I've got 38v after resting for 1 hour and it won't drive then I've probably got other problems?
