Re: 1981 244 robin carb question
Low speed mixture screw. Mine was turned all the way in (off). I backed it out a bit, but then what happens is when I coast downhill off the throttle, then go to press the throttle again I get a big backfire out the exhaust. It starts better and runs better at partial throttle, but can't stand the backfires. So I've turned it back into 1/2 turn out. Think I need to find a balance of idle setting and low speed mix to make it a comprimise.

Re: 1981 244 robin carb question
CP8, you can get rid of the backfires by adjusting the throttle stop screw so the butterfly is closing all the way when off the pedal.
It must close to a stop in the carb, not on the stop screw. Brad, I'm not familiar with a mixture screw that has a nut on it, Can you post a picture of it? |

Re: 1981 244 robin carb question
Thanks crash, thought I put it back to norm when I rebuilt the carb. But after testing it was hanging up a bit returning to idle. So moved the locking collar down the cable like 0.020" and the throttle set all the way closed. Now fattened up the low-speed jet a bit and running very nice ... without the backfires.
For the OP (original poster), I'll try to take pics of my '85 soon. I feel pretty sure that the Needle with locking nut is the low-speed mix, but I'll post up for everyone else to comment. Mine is set just over a turn out now. |

I'd guess this is what the OP was talking about. Low-speed mixture screw. This is on my 1985 Marathon
