ezgo workhorse 12 HP vs regular gas cart
Guys,
I am looking to buy a gas cart, but I want one with more power than the gas cart I now have. Would a Workhorse 12 HP be suitable for lift, large tires, etc? Is this considered a "big block"? Should I ask the year model? Are there reasonable priced performance upgrades to help with torque? Thanks |

'Big Block' is slang for those creative and/or ambitious souls who jam 16, 18, 22, or even 24hp aftermarket engines into their carts ... As to "power to spare", they've definitely got the market cornered, but you're also talking a conversion that can jump over $2k pretty quickly.
I've got a buddy with an older workhorse ST350 (early/mid 90's with the 350cc engine) and my '88 2-stroker runs circles around it, but he has quite an edge in pulling power and torque (both of our carts are lifted and running 22's) ... As to torque upgrades, it can be as simple as a shorter drive belt or you can go as crazy as upgrading your clutches, etc - that's entirely up to you and your budget |

This one is advertised as a Workhorse, green in color, 2001 model, but it doesn't mention ST350. Is the ST 350 motor larger?
Thanks |

The early 90's workhorses came with either the 295cc or the 350cc 4-stroke motor, I don't know when they changed from them year-wise but I'm sure someone who knows will chime in soon (sorry I couldn't be of more help!)

Yes you can upgrade, i.e.; lift and bigger tires and still have plenty of torgue. Mine came with the 350 motor and I had 23" tires on it with the shorter belt. Plenty of low end and ran about 20-22mph on reasonably level ground. |

Re: ezgo workhorse 12 HP vs regular gas cart
look on the ID plate on the eng. if is has ch29 than it is a 9hp 295cc engine. If it has ch35 than it is a 11hp 350cc engine. There were no 12hp engine made for ezgo. 08 and newer has 13hp kawasaki engine in them.
Depending on what workhorse it is depends on what engine it has. |
