Question 1985 Club Car DS " No Reverse "

I got this cart from a friend & he said the rev. just quit working. I talked to a local golf cart dealer and was told that it was the f/r switch. I changed it out and it still does not go in rev. also cart will move forward with key switch in the off position. The yellow wire coming from the far right solenoid that hooks up to the micro switch on the f/r switch got hot and started smoking. Need help figuring out please. Thought about changing out all the five solenoids & speed controller. Any suggestions ?

Check that microswitch first. Possibly, the solenoid closest to the driver's side is welded shut.... that is the master. To test this remove one of the 2 small wires to it and see if the cart still moves ~ if it does, replace it.

No problem, those carts are a semi complicated simple setup..... Simple because there is a master solenoid and a solenoid for each speed the cart goes.... complicated because there is a micro-switch for each solenoid operated by a slide in the silver box at the end of the throttle linkage. Good luck.

Scottyb, I changed out the solenoid and it still does the same thing. It also moves forward with the key switch in the off position. Do you think it might be the speed controller box ? Sorry took so long to get to it, was at hunting lease for 12 days.

Which solenoid? Does the cart have 5 solenoids?

Yes there are 5 solenoids. I changed the one closest to the drivers side like you said that it was the master. I thought about changing all of them but at $35.00 ea. can get expensive.

Don't toss the one you took out.....it's good.
The problem is in the solenoid activation. Buy at least one 2 terminal micro switch for club car & open the little silver box with a red end cap.
There is a micro-switch for each solenoid in there and a plastic slide that operates them one at a time when you push the gas..... There are 2 long & small bolts that hold the box to the frame. Do not pull the bolts out of the box until you are ready to remove the micros.
The bolts thread thru the switches to keep them in place.

a good micro will have a crisp little click when tested. They are simple on/off switches. Check them for continuity with the voltmeter, good luck.
