Re: Wheel wobble
Thanks for the replies! After reading your repplies I jacked up the rear and hit the gas and watched it spin and it does not look like the break drum is sitting flush. In some spots the gap is tight and other spots it seems twice the size. I pulled the wheel off 4 different times to get it seated and I cant get it to seat correctly. Maybe this is the issue. What can I do to get it to seat correctly? If I have to replace the break drum is it just the drum itself or other break components that I need to remove. Thanks again for your help. I think you guys might be on the right track.

Re: Wheel wobble
So you have determined that the drum is not sitting flush on the axle, now you need to determine why before you buy anything.
If the drum is bad a new one will fix it but if the axle is the culprit a new drum will wobble also. Remove the tire, remove the drum and see if something is between the axle face and drum, (maybe a rock or brake part?) Try to reinstall it checking the center ring. You didn't mention when the issue actually started, after any type of work was done? |

Re: Wheel wobble
Yepper, After I finished reading I was going to suggest pulling the wheel and drum again, start the cart and watch the axle flange and see if it wobbles.
If it does you have a bent axle. If it doesn't wobble slide the drum back on the axle studs and see if it will seat flush. If it doesn't try pulling it off and rotating it 90 degrees to the next stud and try it again, do them all just to see if it will go on. Check to see if the center ring is holding the drum out. |

Re: Wheel wobble
OK so I finally got some time to dig back into this and I need some more help. If I play with the drum enough I can get it to seat equally onto the hub. That is until I torque the lug nuts. As soon as I torque the lug nuts down one part of the drum pushes back further then the other and will not budge. I tried every different way of doing this (Tire in the air, tire on the ground, hand tighten them all and then tighten, etc. etc) and as soon as I torque the one side pushes in further. Any ideas of how to stop this? The way I can tell this by the way is the size of the gap/space between the drum and the back plate (Not sure of it's technical term) but the plate that holds the break components. In some spots it is very small and others up to 1/2-3/4" but again only after torquing the lugs down. Just a reminder this is a 97 G16 and I put a new axle and a new hub on thinking it would solve this and it has not. This was prior to be noticing the drum space. Thanks!

Re: Wheel wobble
I am not up on this cart, but have we measured the center hole on the rim to the
centering rib on the hub, is the hub maybe a little to big and the rims are rocking on it. If so the new hub needs a touch up. |

Re: Wheel wobble
Dooms, and Crash, I believe i mentioned that in post 8. Also, if its been driven 4 yrs. like this, the drum is likely to be no good,(parking brake being used like that!!)
And on a side note, brake shoes probably need to be changed as well. |

Re: Wheel wobble
Sorry guys. Just got a chance to take some pics. Let me know if you need other angles. This is after taking off a torqued down wheel. When I put the drum on just by hand it seems even.
