Default The Drive Secondary Clutch Removal and spring upgrades

Hi everyone,

I have a 2007 Drive that is currently all stock. I've tightened up the governor nut all the way and am getting about 17-18 mph. However, we have a bunch of hills in our community and I wouldn't mind if it pulled a little more strongly up hills. Also, our cart is a little jerky right off idle - especially in reverse.

So I'm considering doing the driven clutch spring upgrade. Has anybody been able to compare the plowman's kit against just the power spring I could get at Cartsplus? Is there a big difference in going with the wider belt?

I tried today to remove the driven clutch - I removed the belt and removed the bolt holding the clutch in, but I couldn't get the clutch itself off. Is there a better method for removing it than using a 3 jaw puller (as seen here:
)? Keep in mind that this is a drive...

Last question - is there a big difference between using the speed spring from Cartsplus and just tightening the governor nut all the way in? $25 is cheap enough, but if it's not going to buy me anything then that would be good to know.

Thanks!

Hmm.. no suggestions? Maybe this picture will help. This is what 'The Drive' looks like. The rear clutch does not have the 2 threaded holes that I've seen in other models that allow the use of the harmonic balancer style puller.

Has anybody ever had to remove a stubborn rear clutch from a 2007 or newer?

Thanks!

Good questions. I have done hundreds of Yamaha's "fix" for "chirping/grabbing" clutch problems. I have never had to use a "puller" to get the secondary off, some are harder then others to remove. That being said, the Yamaha "fix" was to remove the secondary, drill the inboard side of the clutch that put the assy closer to the transaxle, making the belt ride at a slight angle and allowing the new JW1-G6241-10-00 drive belt to engage more. Tom @ CPP has a complete kit that will change the secondary spring and primary clutch parts to "update" for better performance. I have not installed a kit yet (I have the special tool and cannot get it apart) Might call Tom and get his advice. As for the speed spring, everyone of my customers have been very happy with it. Good luck
