Installing rebuilt alternator
We are the proud owners of a G2 Yamaha Gas golf cart. Two weeks ago it just stopped. We had the alternator rebuilt and put it back into the cart. Took it for a short ride and no problem. Yesterday we took it out again, but for a longer ride. When we pulled into the driveway, it stopped. The alternator was too hot to touch. Today it started right up with no problem. Could we have installed the alternator wrong? Or any ideas what else might be the problem. Thanks

I would recheck the wiring,A bad Ground can cause it to get really hot.Also a bad Battery.Have it tested,it may have a bad or shorted cell,which will cause the Generator to work overtime.Was the Voltage-Regulator checked when the Generator was rebuilt?It may be stuck in Full-Field(Max-Output) which will also cause the Generator to overheat.Hope this helps.
