Nice cart, looks clean and well taken care of. Check the sticky above ( yami won't start) it is very helpful for electrical problems, mine was a connection under the floor going to the stop switch and ignition switch ( never would have known it was there)

Nice lookin' cart and worth the price. Looks like the previous owner took care of it and put some money into it. If your dad's into it, I'd lift it, 4-6", and put some nice tires/rims on it. Maybe low pros and deep dish rims, something in a black and chrome. A few choice decals or maybe some airbrushing/pin striping would set it off.

Chevyguy, Great looking cart and well worth $500. A small lift, nice wheels/tires would be great. Why not make him part of the process and give him the greatest gift? Time with his son!!

Re: new 1979 g1 any ideas?
Thanks for the replies. I was thinking of lifting it. He is into lifted trucks and quads. We both live in the country and don't think street tires will work well. Basically I wanted to get him something he could ride back and forth to our house. Do these carts pull a small trailer well? I saw it already has a hitch on it. Can I upgrade the clutch for more torque?

Nice buggy for the price! It's great to see another '79 G1 being saved. You've definitely come to the right place to get ideas and ask questions. I installed the Jakes 6 inch lift kit with 22 inch tires and love the outcome. Parts are readily available and I didn't have any problems finding them online. If you can get the oem part numbers and do a Google search you'd be surprised how easy it is to find them.
As for towing, i hooked up my 5x8 utility trailer and hove no problem towing it around my property with a hundred or so pounds of wet leaves and grass. I've attached a few pics. Enjoy the build and remember to post photos as you progress. |

Re: new 1979 g1 any ideas?
Very cool you got it for your dad We can never repay them for what they have given us, wish mine was still around so I could build him whatever kind of car he wanted. If he's into lifted stuff and off road, definatly lift it. Number of things can make your G1-a "dead/won't turn over", number one, check both positive and negative fuses and the fuse holders them selves, number 2-the main 12 volt positive lead wire that runs from the 12 volt battery terminal down into the wireharness. It can get corroded and or break causing a no start problem. Good luck on your dad's new toy...and would love to see pictures and or video of the time you give it to him.
