Re: gas tank repair
Begin by removing the tank and throughly cleaning it until it does not even smell like gas .... Plastic can be welded with the proper heat. Can you post a pic of the hole? What happened?

Re: gas tank repair
Also might try a gas tank repair kit (any auto store) it's a 2 part epoxy with some nylon cloth mesh, never used it on a cart tank but worked great on my fiberglass utility sink (my wife dropped an iron on) and a old ford oil pan I used to own.

Re: gas tank repair
MMT weekly tech tip!
ALWAYS use a step bit when drilling on a golf cart, wether it is drilling out rivets or other areas. We've ALL done it - I've done it, I'll admit I don't let anyone at my shop use anything else when drilling on a cart. Now, if the hole is up high, I'd try a repair. If it's down low, I'd replace the tank... |

Re: gas tank repair
Two years ago I drilled a 1/4" hole in my tank. I repaired it with Fas-Weld plastic repair epoxy putty. I bought it at NAPA for under $5.00 . Good luck and happy carting.

Re: gas tank repair
Fiberglass won't stay on a Polypropylene gas tank. I might look good at first but it will flake off.
try a two part epoxy or replace the tank for long term piece of mind. Hate to see the leak redevelope one night while it's parked in your garage. |
