club car key switch question
my clone swap is very close to being finished. just a little more fabrication on the exhaust, and some electrical work. my question is: can i use the original club car ignition switch to start my cart? my thought is to use the cc switch to turn cart on, and a momentary button to operate the solenoid on the starter. i would appreciate any comments, and suggestions. auto electric is not my thing.
thankyou in advance. |

Re: club car key switch question
You will need a momentary contact to activate the starter solenoid. You can use a momentary button like the old cars used on the floor? I'll bet the easiest route is to go to an automotive store and buy a universal start key switch...

Re: club car key switch question
i have a universal key switch. i was just thinking that i'd like to retain the cc switch. haven't really decided yet. the other issue is my teenage stepson. i'd like to cut down unauthorized use, and abuse. he and his friend set me on the road to engine swapland when they blew the original motor up. i'm not interested in doing this again. an option i'm toying with is a remote kill switch unknown to him. if he kills the cart again, i will probably light his 4 wheeler on fire. i'd rather avoid this. so, until he can grow a brain and some respect......

Re: club car key switch question
That's just one more reason for a unique automotive key switch.

By starter I assume you mean the clone starter ? If so your momentary switch idea would be perfect. Lots of modern cars have this feature, a throwback to "the good old days". As regards keeping your stepson off the cart; I wired in a cheap alarm system for a friend who was being driven crazy by his kids who would just jump aboard and go fishing whenever they felt like it. It has a remote fob which he keeps on his cart key ring. Cheap ($25) and very effective. FC. |

i'd like to know about the alarm system. where did you get it? does it just make noise? or does it also have a kill switch?

FasterCarter,
that's pesky stepson, and his numbnut friends. seems to the wife and i that there is an intelligence inverse when more of them are together than when he's by himself which is sketchy at best. |

Re: club car key switch question
I know it's am old cliche, but seriously. Most kids today are as thick as mud on a riverbank. The system has them believing they are all as smart as a Wall St Banker aged 16 and are moving into $$$$$$$ jobs until the reality hits home. Thick as sh*t most of em but they have been sold a new life that doesn't exist.
Very sad and we are losing old school skills that have been passed along the years. FC |

Re: club car key switch question
My suggestion is to buy a $10 universal from autozone and cut out all the CC wiring. I've had to do that on CC's with the factory engine just to complicate things for a few customers.
