86' DS speed control questions

I have a new to me 86' DS 36 volt cart. I bought it used, put 6 new batts in it and new cables. It seems that this cart has 3 distinctive "speeds" when you push the pedal. I understand that these carts use micro switches to control the speeds via a glide plate. I wonder if there is actually a few not making connection, or is this a normal feeling for these older carts? What would be the correct way to test these switches, if I need to? What sort of voltage do they output? I also do not have a working reverse buzzer, the wire to the solenoids is there and connected but the wire that runs to the micro switches is NOT, which switch does this wire connect to? I looked at the wiring schematic and it shows an end switch, but I am not sure if that is layed out correctly (front to back). I hope to get back in town and get inside this cart again soon but I would like to have a plan of attack. On a side is it normal for these carts to charge for over 12 hours (lestermatic II charger)?

The cart's speed selection system has 5 solenoids and 4 resistor coils and 1 direct connection = 5 speeds. The solenoids are laid out across the rear of the battery tray. The sol. closest the drivers side is the master, not a speed. It clicks first then each of the other 4 solenoids click in progression as the peddle triggers the 5 micro switches in the little silver box.

Jack the cart up off the floor and remove the seat. with your hand press the peddle down and listen for each click. With the exception of the first click, each click should produce an increase in speed..... if it does, it is working as well as any 25-30 yr old cart. Careful not to run the motor too high or long at all with no load on it... it may disintegrate which would be very bad for anybody standing nearby! This is only a test to see if all 5 speeds are working, not a game. I hope this helps & welcome to BGW, Jason.

to add to scottys advice the last solenoid right side is for reverse..........................
