Default How to fit these OEM alum wheels to a DS hub?

When I took these off SWMBO’s Precedent, I was surprised to find the dust covers missing. When I went to put them on a DS today, I discovered why. Even with no dust cover, the spindle protrudes past where the center cap sits. A spacer would probably be the only way to make them fit, correct? What size?

I once ran into a similar problem. I found that the plastic caps of various different sizes of spray cans worked as center dust covers. It took some doing, but I ended up with four that fit inside my rims perfectly, and you couldn't tell they weren't made that way.

Good tip. My main issue is that the spindle is longer than the rim is deep.

Hmm

I don’t have spacers and they fit my 2008 DS fine with the dust caps?

That's so weird. You can see in my pic just how bad the spindle sticks out, yet clearly yours arent. What year is your cart? This one is an '02 (I think) series.

Maybe that’s why. The 02 used metal caps and tapered bearings. Mine is a 2008 IQ so it has the plastic caps and newer style bearings. That’s probably what the difference is. I don’t know if it’s possible to swap hubs/knuckles with the newer style or not. But it would probably be a ton easier to just buy some 1” wheel spacers on Amazon, they’re about 40 bucks

'04 and newer use different spindles AND different bearings. The earlier versions use tapered roller bearings with separate races in the hub. Newer version is a sealed bearing. That Precedent the wheels came off of was probably the newer style. Having sealed bearings it can live without a cap if it comes to that. Spacers would allow your '02 to fit over the caps that NEED to be in place - to keep the grease in.

Thanks for the information, guys. I hope 1" spacers up front and not out back don't look too weird. I'm not trying to put any money into this cart since it's going to be sold.

And yes, SWMBO is a great term! :D

The front track is a little narrower than the rear anyway. You may lose a little turning radius but not a lot, and it should look fine
