Default cranks fine

My brothers cart (86 ezgo ) cranks fine but won't rev up at all , it will run at idle all day smooth but press the petal and it dies . Could this be a stopped up muffler ?

Adjust the idle.

Just kidding. I couldn't resist. Could be a number of things: stopped up muffler, float in carb allowing to much fuel, air/vacuum leak........ Check the air flow coming out of the muffler if you can get it to rev at all. Does the muffler ever get "red" hot? That is a good indication that it is stopped up.

When you say idles fine, sure it's running or the starter spinning the motor? Is hot air coming out the exhaust?

ok , details , the tone of the engine changes and warm air is coming out of the exaust ,
compression = 85
dies when choke is pulled
does same thing when in reverse
already tried :
all rubber lines replaced
fuel filter replaced
spark plug replaced
gas tank took off and cleaned
consulted with the old witch woman down by the creek .it stumped her too

have you tried spraying carb cleaner at the crank seals while your cranking it over? if not do so another thing is compresion at 85 i know some carts will run while others won,t so i would be concerned about that...........pull the spark plug and spray some carb cleaner in there and put plug back in and crank over see what it does......................................
