On a IQ cart, that would only apply to the factory magnet.

But then again we don't know what the speed was before, or after for that matter, so we are all just speculating if there is a problem.

So in a perfect world or perfect conditions whatever speed code you're set at, the magnet fools the controller by reducing the pulses from the speed sensor because the magnet has half the poles.
I still wonder if protection is built into the controller limiting a free fall in speed unless some setting is turned off, Ie speed code 4 etc. and the normal speed code 3 has limitations thus it will never double speed?

Up to and including the IQ controller, the speed sensor loop was the only way the Sepex controller regulated the speed.

If the information coming from the sensor is indicating half the speed, the controller has no way to know.

The Excel system is different as the controller also matches the Motor field map to the sensor input.

If the controller detects that the amount of current is not what it should be for the speed signal it is receiving, it will "test" the system by going into Regen and measuring the current.

Anyone that tried installing a speed magnet on an Excel cart knows what I am talking about as the cart will "buck".

So how do the speed codes limit the output are they fooling the processor to think the pulses are more or less depending on which speed code is set?

No fooling, it is just a set on the controller that tells it how many RPMs it should allow the motor to turn.

The controller programming reads that setting.

The fooling comes from when the controller thinks is limiting the motor to say, 3300rpm (speed code 3), but the motor is actually going 6600rpms because the magnet in the sensor is only generating half of the pulses per motor revolution.

Exactly, so the top speed under ideal conditions will be determined by the speed code, the magnet will potentially provide twice the RPM. So putting a magnet in any cart other than excel will have varying results because of the set speed codes and other variables, ie brake drag, tire inflation, tire size, battery condition etc. Once that is understood then we shouldn't get any other complaints other than cases like this one where he had no change.

Thanks, sounds simple enough.

The speed magnet will render all speed settings the same except for speed setting 1. Speed setting 1 is 8 MPH and will increase the ground speed to 16mph when a high speed magnet is installed. Speed setting 2 is 13.2MPH is believe, so it will increase the maximum allowed speed to 26.4MPH, a speed that the cart just simply doesn't have enough power to reach, but if it did, it would utilize motor braking to keep itself from going faster than that. Speed setting 3 and 4 are 14.8 and 19.6 MPH respectively, both doubled equals an even higher speed that the car will definitely not reach. Therefore, 2, 3, and 4 are all the same if you have a high speed magnet. The best part about the magnet is that you can get better results than speed setting 4 for less money.

I just tried it and You will have a hard time sensing exactly where the poles are. The magnetic field will cause the paper clip to be attracted all over the magnet surface.

It is pretty easy though if You use another magnet, the attraction and repulsion of the poles are very obvious to locate.

Also, the poles have to be alternating anyway in order for the bi-polar HAL effect sensor to work correctly, so that is a better way to test if You got the proper magnet.
