Default plug charger into cart or wall first?

does it matter if I plug the charger into the cart first, or into the wall outlet first?
I'm not sure but I thought I read to plug the cart in first then plug the charger into the wall outlet?
I hope this isn't the stupidest question ever!
where's the spell check, I need it bad.

My understanding is it does not matter. Plug it into the wall first and nothing should happen, then plug it into the cart and after 3 seconds you hear a click and it starts charging. Plug it into the cart first and after 3 seconds you hear a click in the charger then plug into the wall and it starts charging.

This is on my 96 EZGO using the Powerwise charger

If you plug in the wall first the electrons rush to the end of the charging cord and hang there. When you plug in the cart they surge and cause gas to bubble off.
Just like the toaster my Grandmother said would burn the bread.

Sorry guys, the question reminded me of my Gram telling us kids always plug in the cord to the toaster first.
Now I am going and have my first martini of the week end.

Definitely not a stupid question! I don't think there is any difference as long as the particular charger doesn't have a warning about it. The golf course I used to work for had rows of chargers with the dc cords ready to be plugged into the carts. The ac cords were plugged into outlets at the ceiling level, and were never removed. The time delay function prevents an arc when you plug the dc cord into the cart.

I sorta thought it wouldn't make any difference but thought I had better check.

There are no stupid questions, just stupid mistakes. Kudos to you for asking.

Modern chargers have smart electronics that are powered by the wall plug. It's not a bad idea to power them up first. I am sure that any decent charger design can handle connecting either way though. There is usually a relay that actually connects the charger when it gets powered up.

To avoid spitzen und sparken at the wall outlet, plug charger into AC first. Especially the old transformer type automatic chargers.

The relay contacts that apply power to the transformer primary are open until the control board senses the cart's battery pack, so no AC current flows.

There is a slight delay designed into the battery sensing circuit, so the charger isn't likely to turn on before the charge plug is fully inserted.

However, it may not matter much either way for the newer chargers.

I know the power up sequence is the same either way on my DPI chargers, but it definitely makes a difference on my PW-II
