I am glad we have a thread on this subject as I just upgraded to HD's After intall the axle bracket to frame length is 21" before it was 17". My question to you all is "Did you have to change shocks or add shock extensions after installing the new HD's?" Or, do I just use the same (length open) size shock I had and muscle the original size shocks in the holes?

I had already replaced the shocks so I just left them in place when I replaces the springs. Since the really is no change to the suspension geometry, just heavier springs, there should be no need to change shocks.

Get the kit with the hd front and rear springs. You won't regret it. Sounds to me like the front springs are just weak. If you find it running too rough just take a leaf out of the front and keep the extra leaf in the rear for the seat kit. Give it a week with the new springs and I have a feeling you won't notice the hd part.

i ended up going with the hd springs front and rear since i am installing a rear seat. It solved my rubbing problem. If i wasn't doing the rear seat , the front springs would have been enough. It rides a little bit stiffer in the rear now, but i haven't added the extra weight from the rear seat yet.

I added the HD springs on my build and coil over shocks. I was told (as has been suggested here on this thread) that the ride would soften up some, It has been a few weeks and we ride 3 miles everyday on a dirt road. My wife and I can see a "softer difference" in the ride for sure. Still though for cruising it is not ideal. This only gives me fuel for a lake cruiser and the hunting buggy!!

I don't know about the back.....but the fronts don't raise it any (i replaced my fronts a while back with HD's).....they are just stiffer, and I would bet the same thing goes for the rears.
