Default 2002 ezgo slow

Just picked up my 2002 EZGO TXT Series Cart and it is pretty slow. Batteries are 6 years old so I suspect they may be weak. Would this cause the speed to suffer?

I plan to do a 48V conversion in the future so really don't want to spend the money on batteries right now.

Any thoughts? What is the cheapest upgrade?

Six year old batts, yeah they're are probably why it's so slow.
That's about their lifespan- 6 years

Define slow.

A stock cart only does 12-14 mph. Most feel that is slow but that's brand new out of the box speed. Use a gps or a speedometer app on your phone to see how "slow" it really is.

11 - 12 flat ground

Check water levels in batteries. Then charge them every chance you get. Put it on charger and wait until it shuts off , then unplug from cart and plug it right back in and wait until the charger shuts off. Keep charging often and keep an eye on water. Clean all connections. I bet that if the batteries are a quality battery they will respond and "come back " some what. Get a DVM and monitor them and see if the SOC is improving.

I just did a total upgrade to my TXT.....seeing as you want or are going to do a 48v upgrade, you are looking at about $1200 to do it RIGHT, plus the cost of the batteries and the 48v chargers (thats in the neighborhood of another $12-1300).

going up from 36v to 48v will get you about a 30% increase in both speed and torque.

to do it RIGHT, you will need a new controller, HD Solenoid, HD F/R switch, and 2 ga wire set.

check out scottyb's site (carts unlimited) he can FIX YOU UP!!
