Default 1996 v-glide options

I bought a 96 v-glide this week that "just stopped". At least two of the batteries are bad. As time and money allow I plan to upgrade it to 48v lift it and make a high torque off-road and/or hunting buggy. Can a standard v-glide handle 48v for "a while"?
My upgrade/repair plan is new batteries 1st, one of Scottyb's or David's upgrade packages and finally a lift kit for larger and wider tires suitable for off road play in loose dirt in the woods.
Thanks for looking & suggestions,
Michael

If this is a 36 volt series controller cart, the 0-5K V-glide should be the same.

All of this depends on what throttle input your new controller needs.

Can it Handle 48v or will it fry the resistors?

Sorry for my confusion. Yes it is currently a 36v cart.

Pretty sure it'll fry the resistors. What you can do though is to convert the vglide to be your throttle for when you buy an Alltrax controller and upgrade the F/R contactor, solenoid, and cables. Instructions are here: http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...onversion.html. It's what I'm doing with a 36V 2002 CC DS now.

Are you speaking of resistors in the v-glide or is this a resistor cart?

it is a v-glide. I think. I've never worked on this model DS. Price was right at $200.00 delivered to my yard. I would like to upgrade over a six or seven month period. Batteries first so we can use it then , controller, lift kit, wheels, motor, camouflage paint......

That is a resistor cart. If you use that v-glide it will have to be changed to a resistor type throttle.

So, to answer your initial question some say you can run what you have at 48v, some say no. I have never done it.

You can get some info from David at Revolution Golf. He carries a pre MCOR to MCOR 4 conversation kit for DS models 1995.5 to 2001. I did the conversion on a 97 DS. Replaced the faulty V glide with the MCOR. Been about a year now. So far so good.

Well shoot. I was hoping for it would last for for a long time. While I saved up for the rest of the upgrades.
