Jump the solenoid using the method you prefer, or put both cables on one post.

Unhook the pack leads before putting the cables together. My best guess is you have a bad, clicking solenoid. Does the resistor get hot when you try to run it?

Just for clarity here. "...on top of them." Does this cart have 2 solenoids?

How did you hook it up?

What is the history of this cart?

OK. So you put both cables together and when you reconnected pack (or attempted to) you had a HUGE spark as in welding? Without FNR in gear, key off, and not touching go pedal?

Have you washed the cart near the controller/gotten it wet?

OK. From what you describe, it sounds like there is something shorting out in the controller.

If the solenoid is working, that should be the same electrically as you putting the 2 cables together. That would mean whatever fireworks you saw outside are going on inside the controller. This leads me to think the controller is bad. Unless you have a pedal/throttle problem that would cause the fireworks you describe from activating the cart suddenly. Did the wheels spin?

Assuming you have everything wired correctly, I think the controller is bad.

I hope others will chime in on my thoughts.
