Default DS guy with Precedent problems

Good morning. I have been working on a '08 48v Precedent for my Mother in law that she uses a handful of times a year camping. My Father in law built the cart about 4 years ago and passed away shortly after. I haven't been able to get her to leave the cart plugged in and the batteries were down to 2-3 volts when I picked it up a couple weeks ago. I was able to recharge each individually and get the charger to work. The batteries will be two years old this Memorial Day weekend, and it has had a consistent problem with only being able to do a lap or two around the campground before going dead. So trying to rule things out, I got a 48v-12v converter as he had the headlights wired to one of the 12v batteries. The wiring looks like it is identical to this bucket harness- https://bradsgolfcars.com/wp-content...structions.pdf . I am using one of the plug and play reducers from a sight sponsor here. I installed last night and checked the accessory wires off the reducer for power using a test light on the positive and negative wires and got nothing with the key on. I ran the ground on the test light to a negative post on the battery and had a bright light, but on both the positive and negative wires? The power wire from the bucket harness is disconnected. Really scratching my head on this one as nothing on the DS's are plug and play. Plan was to tap into power wire in the headlight bucket harness up under the dash and tie into accessory wire to power the lights. Any ideas on what I'm missing? (sorry for the long rambling post)

Don't know about the reducer hookup, but the batteries are shot! Likely the lights were left on a time or two didn't help either. The batteries will not last very long at all if they are not kelp on a charger, also batteries like being used and recharged.

The ground on the output side of the reducer is NOT the same as the pack ground. In fact the ground on the 12 volt output of the reducer will almost certainly be "higher voltage" (more +) than the ground of the full pack. The test light run between the output side of the reducer and the pack ground is an invalid test. Does your reducer have a wire to the key switch?

Yes, it says it is key switched, but there are only two plugs that go into the harness in the dash. I thought that might be a bad test from the + to the pack ground. But, test light on the + and - doesn't light with the switch on.
