Installed new dash, screws snapping off in aluminum?
Seemed like a straightforward project but, even with 1/8 pilot holes drilled on each one, these screws twist right off. Any suggestions on what to replace them with so I don’t snap one off next to it?
See the right side of the dash where the screws twisted off. Silver dots are where the screw head is missing! I’ll need to be replacing them with something stronger. Thanks, |

Drill the holes bigger, tap them to 1/4-20 thread and use grade 8 button head cap screws. Most hardware stores have them.
You can use stainless but stainless and aluminum don't play well together, so if you do that you'll have to put a heavy coat of antiseize on every screw. |

I did the same thing with the first screw. Rest of the holes were 5/32” still tight but didn’t break any. Same dash as yours.
