Default 2010 electric club car

Batteries are good,54volts.cart will start off fine for 20 feet ,then slows to stop like brakes are on,there is a excessive heat smell.cart will go again at normal speed and slow to stop again. The motor does feel warmer than it should in my thinking for the short distance it goes.
Any suggestions

Have you checked the connections on each battery? Are all the cables good?

Does the cart roll freely by hand when it does this?

What is the pack voltage when the cart is trying to drive?
A warm motor after going only a few feet could mean a bad connection at the motor or the armature is shorted.
Are any of the motor cables getting warm or is it just the motor?
