Precedent brake noise?
I have recently in the last few months been trying to sort out little issues and check maintenance items off my list and may have found or created another. I am getting a rub squeak noise from the passenger rear brake when applying them since I pulled the drum off to inspect for pad wear. Maybe I need to adjust them but don’t know if that’s the issue. I’ll post a video link.

Re: Precedent brake noise?
Did you have any resistance when you placed the drum back on or did it slip on easily?

Re: Precedent brake noise?
There's a thread here that discusses checking the adjuster:
https://www.buggiesgonewild.com/showthread.php?t=166388 It's a good thing to do because they can stop moving properly. I use a very thin application of anti-seize on mine. Also, be sure that you didn't move the brake pads from their original position when you checked them. However, you should have noticed this because you would have felt the hub hit the high spot when you put it back on. Lastly, clean off the pads and the inside of the hub with brake cleaner. Be sure there is no irregular wear inside the hub. A mask is recommended when you do this. :) I leave the rest to the experts on this forum. Hope this helps you. |

Re: Precedent brake noise?
I may have found a hot spot or glazed Mark that could be the culprit.

Re: Precedent brake noise?
Could be but even if it isn't it needs attention and try to figure out what is rubbing this spot. My best guess is the adjuster not moving freely.
I use 320 or 600 grit 3M sandpaper on mine and wet it with WD-40 if I'm removing any rust. Clean it afterwards with brake cleaner and dry. I use the 320, also, to gently clean the brake pads. Just be sure to clean then off with brake cleaner and use compressed air to clean everything off. Are you sure you're pads are not worn? Are the worn equally along the pad? I hope this solves your problem. |
