Default 2008 DS fast and slow...

maybe one of you electrical gurus has an idea. So I traded my gas carryall for a 48v DS. Its a 2008 so is an IQ system.

Something definitely doesn't seem right. Sometimes it goes fast (and by "fast" I mean about 12mph). Any time you come to a hill, even a slight hill, or grass, its sometimes able to hold speed but usually drops down to a crawl. By crawl, i mean by GPS im getting albetween 5-8mph.

Ive done the check pushing it while the button is in gear. It beeps and gets hard to push.
If I coast and flip the switch to N it beeps and slows itself to a stop pretty quickly.
When it starts dragging and going really slow, pack voltage (measured with my fluke 287 meter... yes overkill but its what I've got at the gouse lol) never drops below ~48.8 under load. Usually cruising ita close to 50v. I dont think batteries are an issue or voltage would dive way lower under a load if they were bad.
None of the cables or connections are even remotely warm
The controller and motor are both pretty warm, but not so hot I can't hold my hand on it.

Any ideas? I could tell you pretty much anything about a FE powered cart but I've never messed with an IQ before.

Does anyone know how these things behave with slow speed codes in the controller? Or bad MCOR? I tried pumping the pedal a bunch of times but it didn't make any difference. Holding the pedal to the floor the entire time it seems to pick and choose how fast it wants to go on ita own, almost like the controller is choking it way back (which would explain why it feels like it "struggles" to maintain speed but does not drop voltage any, if anything voltage increases slightly when it bogs down)

More than likely the linkage rod for the MCOR is worn and isnt being turned all the way when you put the pedal on the floor. That’s usually evident by pressing the pedal almost halfway down before the solenoid clicks.
Check the pivot bushings for the Go pedal if they’re worn it would be a good idea to replace them. Usually a piece of fuel hose or a zip tie or three on the MCOR rod to take the slack out of it will get it back to full power.

Right where the pedal goes through the floor look for two rods sticking off the end of the MCOR linkage rod. The fuel hose and/or zip ties go on the upper one to take up the slack between the rod and the pedal arm.

Thanks buddy I think you just hit the nail right on the head! I was just noticing it doesnt move or click until about half pedal, and even then it was real notchy trying to do slow speeds. I was thinking MCOR until I read your reply and noticed it wasn't even close to the top bar on the pedal. Lot of play there. So, I wedged a piece of fuel line and a zip tie in there, and it took off like a rocketship

Ill take it for a longer ride later, but that looks like all it was.

That was it

Holds a steady 13-14mph up hills, down hills, grass, pavement, whatever I drive through. Working great!

Now time for a speed magnet. See what kind of difference that makes :)

Amazing how someone in Virginia can diagnose a cart in Michigan. Gotta love this forum.

Edit: I should have added "Nice job FairTax"

I’ve fixed that a few times and it hasn’t failed me yet. I know why Club Car designed it they way they did, but it’s one of those parts that wears over time and eventually causes problems that not everyone will pick up on until the cart is just plain slow.
I’ve fixed a lot of stuff with zip ties and “duck” tape. Broken tie rod ends maybe being one of them...

I held a broken tie rod with duck tape for a couple weeks while waiting for a replacement to show

Im certainly no expert with electric carts, but learning this one had me stumped, i would not have thought about the pedal mech itself! Took a long ride this evening and its been perfect. Now that we've left the farm for subdivision life, this cart is much more suited to what fits us than thr carryall was. I still love carryalls but they just don't serve me a lot of functional purpose anymore.

Now I just need to "make it mine"

Just an update, still working great. Got my high speed magnet from David at revolution today. The original was stuck like a *******. So I welded a paint can opener to a slide hammer and that worked.

Strong acceleration, no more regen, and I only took a quick ride up my street and back, but got 20mph. Gotta say I'm happy with the results. Thanks David!
