plug dosn,t mean anything if its a 36 volt cart it needs a 36 volt charger .......good point scotty but you would think if it was modified they would have changed the recptical so it could be charged..........even if you change plug end and receptical both still have to be either 36 or 48 volt.........one dosn,t work with the other....try and sell it and get the right one........................

I am in the situation! I have an 89 ds that I have converted to 48 volts by changing batteries. This has been working for years with one of those cheap internet chargers {with a crows foot connector} that probably charges only 5 amps. I have a PowerDrive 3 charger that I would love to use! Can this be done? and How? Change receptacle to round?

The powerdrive 48v charger can be bypassed internally... but the problem is... it will never shut off.
Its OK to do this if you put a timer on it or babysit it.

It becomes a "dumb" charger but still puts out plenty of juice to charge up a battery pack.
I did mine this way until a new DPI Accusense charger showed up.

I am a fan of SB connectors and put them on everything.
All 3 of my chargers have them.

I have a new 48v DPI Accusense thats a week old... a 36v DPI Accusense in mint condition... and 48v powerdrive thats been bypassed. It has an on/off toggle in place of the OBC controlled relay.
The last 2 chargers are available if interested.

You should not use a Powerdrive box without the OBC, it will not properly charge the batteries even if you add a timer.

Charging a Lead Acid battery with only the "bulk" phase will result in about a 80% actual charge.

It is OK to use it as a short gap while you get a new charger, but long use is not good for the batteries health.

It will also greatly shorten the usable life of the pack. That becomes very costly when compared to purchasing and automatic or smart charger.
