resetting the obc on my 48v club car

the resetting instructions says to disconnect the negative cable on the far left side, i assume that is the main negative cable. then turn the key on, put selector knob in reverse position, lock down the throttle and in a few seconds the reverse buzzer will sound. wait about five minutes and then reconnect everything and the obc should be reset. my cart reverse buzzer does not sound when the negative cable is disconnected. i must be missing something here. need some help with obc resetting instructions.

Does it sound when it is hooked up? Just leave ppeddle down for a minute, and then reconnect the cable will be okay.

Resetting the Club Car On board computer - reset the OBC

To reset the OBC the following must be done in this order:

If no Tow/Run Switch then skip that step

• Key Switch to Off
• Forward/Reverse to Neutral
• Tow/Run Switch to Tow
• Disconnect the Battery NEGATIVE (–) wire from the Battery Minus terminal on the battery pack.
• Put the Tow/Run to Run
• Forward/Reverse Switch to Reverse
• Key Switch to On
• Lock the throttle pedal down

The reverse buzzer will sound and go off in about 30 seconds.
Leave the cart like that for 5 min to cause the OBC to reset.

To reconnect the OBC back into the system:
• Key Switch to Off
• Forward/Reverse Switch to Neutral
• Tow/Run switch to Tow
• Reconnect the Batt – wire to the battery minus
terminal on the battery pack.
• Tow/Run switch to Run
• Key Switch to ON

My 1998 Yamaha G19 has a forward & reverse switch only, no neutral.

What does resetting the OBC do? When/why is it necessary?

It is probably a good idea to do it periodically, like once every 6 months or so.

All You really need to do is disconnect the negative cable from the pack and leave it off for more than 10 minutes.

While You wait is also a good time to clean the battery connections and re-apply corrosion protection to all terminals.

Once the power is removed for over 10 minutes the OBC looses all stored information about how much energy has been removed from the battery since last charge.

The OBC then runs a different charging algorithm to try to get a baseline on the battery health.

It may take more than one charge cycle after the reset for this process to finish and the cycles will last longer, so let them finish (charger will turn off by itself) without interrupting.

The OBC will track the current usage after the first cycle and then will recalculate during the next charging cycle to determine if the batteries behaved as predicted and make adjustments as needed.

After that process is complete the charging cycles will be short again since the OBC will know exactly how much current was removed from the system and deliver the proper re-charge without the fear or under/over charging.
