Default "02" Club Car DS IR Digital Voltage Meter Install

Hello,

I just bought a digital voltage meter for my "02" Club Car DS IQ 48V cart. I was wondering what is the best way to wire it in? Should I use the power off the key switch to turn it off when the car is not in use? Please help me with this.

If your meter is LED the draw is so small that powering it up straight off the battery pack will not effect the pack voltage or run time in the least bit. Also this type of connection results in the most accurate reading. On the other hand it's nice to have it go on and off with the key.

I would wire it off of the key switch so it turns off when not in use. It will slowly drain the batteries over a few days if the display is lit up all the time. Just remember to wire the meter correctly across the battery bank or you'll end up scratching your head like I did when it would only read 12v.

Most of these meters are LED. The LED type draw is 4-6mah. A milliampere-hour (mA·h or mAh) is one-thousandth of an ampere-hour . You would need about 200 of these meters to equal what the pack will loose naturally in a day.
I have a few of these hard wired to various R&D carts and I have never experienced or measured any draw - one has been on for 6 yrs on the same pack. So yeah, I say no problem leaving it on.

+1 on what Scottyb said.

Mine is wired straight to the pack and it makes it nice to pop my head in the garage to check my SOC in case I need to charge the pack while I'm at work so the cart will be ready when I get home.

EDIT: BTW I haven't notice any extra drain on the pack either.

I've got mine wired to the ignition, but I wouldn't worry about the draw; like Scotty said, it's not worth worrying about...

I've seen complaints posted about the led displays being too bright at night. Would it be possible to use a push-button, normally open switch to the display so that the display would remain dark until you pushed the button ("on demand" and closed the circuit), then go off when you released the button...???

I use backlit LCD displays with an adjustable backlight - but I always want it as bright as possible during the day.

No where in this did he say LED. Nor did I. Sorry for the confusion though.
