Unhappy If You Have a Club Car and Buy These Wheels - Beware (Pics Inside)

I'm sure many of you have seen these 10x7 steel wheels for sale on eBay and other online retailers both as wheels alone and in combos with tires included. Well I just learned the hard way that these wheels need spacers in order to keep them from destroying your Club Car's front hubs. Note: My wheels are custom painted in almond, I've not seen these wheels for sale in any other color besides black.

The problem is that the design of the inner hub of these wheels puts improper stress on the outer corners of my Club Car’s small, square-shaped front hubs. The back side of the hub is embossed in such a way that the wheel does not seem to properly distribute the lug nut's torque across the hub. The biggest chunk of contact area on the back of the wheel lands right on those outer corners. And for this reason it seems that both of my front hubs are now destroyed. And it's not because I ran an impact down on them, I used a torque wrench at around 100 ft/lbs. to tighten them down, which I've done with this cart and my other cart with no issues until these wheels came along. I suppose I could not tighten them down as much, but it was never an issue before.

Damage photos of both passenger and driver's side hubs. You can see the contact area on the back of the wheel where the concentrated pressure broke the hub corners:

Springbok, what are the specs? 100lbs seems a bit much.

Bummer.. With the way those wheels are made I am not sure what would sit flat in the small circle.. The post spacers may work but I think would cause stress on the hub as well. FTIW, I just ordered a set of 1 " spacers from Summit Performance for $70 for both front and rear.. As for hubs, someone here on the forum may have some used ones or maybe TahoeDawg might have something..

I just looked in the manual and they say 50-60 ft/lbs. So I could probably lighten up on the torque, but as I said it was never an issue before these wheels showed up.

Yeah that's exactly what I'm going with, the aluminum spacers from Summit Performance that have the studs pressed in them. I bought a set for my other cart and they seem to be really good quality.

No doubt there is a wheel hub mismatch here, I have not looked but 50-60 lbs is a lot! I have seen people warp rotors on cars putting that much torque on wheels.

When I worked at a tire shop (for cars) we torqued lugs to 100ft/lbs. I'm learning that carts don't need that much...apparently. 50/60ft/lbs is what's recommended in the official Club Car manual.

maybe put a flat washer on each stud behind the wheel to help with that

The washer kind that if you buy a 1/2 inch size one, for instance, the hole actually measures 1/2 inch because they'd all be the same thickness.

I use 60 ft lb on my club car, 80 on my truck

That is a bad design on the wheel, even the washer would not sit flat. I don’t know what the hell kind of hub they were designed for but can’t think of what it would look like.
