I must have not only a block lift on the front, but a drop axle as well. I am noticing that everyone else's is straight across and mine isn't.

Someone must have switched the front end. That would also explain why the coil overs have loops on both ends as well.

Alright - here's a couple of pics of the front end, stock with a 5" "block" lift ... This is from the front (to show the axle and the lift blocks):



Here's from the side (through the wheel well) which shows the original springs, as well as the shocks (stud type) mounted to the extenders:



now, let's see a couple of good ones of your front end, maybe we can get to the bottom of the issue once and for all (and for the record, there's a Marathon axle on Ebay right now, so worse case scenario, you at least know you can find the parts to restore the front end if you need to)

Pics of the front suspension as promised. I think someone did a front suspension change on mine.

Here you can see what looks like a drop axle.



You can see the lift blocks in this pic




Here you can see the shocks (coil overs) have a loop at each end.





The scary part.... here you can see where they heated up the metal to bend the steering arm down
