Default Welding on golf cart?

I have an ezgo txt. It has a brush guard on the front and I want to weld a receiver hitch on it for a winch. Can I weld it on the cart, or should I take it off? I'm worried about grounding to the rack which is bolted to the frame. Are the frames grounded like a gas vehicle is? Thanks

Yes. Unhook the pack and get your ground as close to the arc as possible. If it isn't too much trouble, I'd pull the guard off.

disconnect the pack and ground it close to where you're welding, you'll be fine.

I have welded the rear roof strut plates on many EZ-Go's (common failure area on the ST w/dump-bed) with the only precaution being to cover the tops of the batteries and switch the controller to TOW. Never had a problem or issue. This method was approved by an EZ-Go service tech.
