2002 FE290 Driven Belt (Gen Belt) R&R
Currently, I am "mining" the BGW site for information on "How to" remove and reinstall the Driven Clutch and Generator BELTS without taking off the chassis or taking the Gen/Clutch ends apart.
Suggestions? |

You "roll" the drive belt off of the driven clutch... no tools required,
just watch your fingers... it hurts! (don't ask me how I know! ) drivebeltinstall.jpg With the S/G belt, you have to loosen the mounting bolts and slide it forward like an older car alternator. |

Woo hoo Lockman. Thank you! Much easier than messing with the cradle bolts on the engine.
I "hear you" that the Gen belt will have to be adjusted (not too tight). Just not sure how to get in there without taking the chassis off - and I don't want to do that unless absolutely necessary or it becomes too dang difficult for this old man. OK - back outside to the cart again. |

Re: 2002 FE290 Driven Belt (Gen Belt) R&R
OK. Progress report.
Driven belt came off easy and as if it didn't want to be on the cart anymore. New driven belt doesn't want to go on. I need a 2nd pair of hands - coming tomorrow afternoon. Gen. belt is still very good, but in determining that, I "unloaded" the belt tension, took the belt off, put it back on, and then could not get it tensioned. I tried different techniques for two hours. Unloaded 3 bolts holding the generator. Put a ratchet strap on it. Attempted to leverage it. PITA. Finally got it tensioned "just enough". Retightened bolts. Life is good again. |
