2002/2012 DS not staying running

Here’s the skinny.

I have a 2002 DS with a 2012 FE 290 in it. Did the swap last weekend, pretty simple really. Everything works, throttle is adjusted and the pedal engages the starter and the throttle as designed. Runs pretty good....kinda

It will not stay running (even after it’s warm) unless the choke is pushed in almost all the way. Thought I could wean it off the choke once it was rolling but no dice.

I’ve been screwing with this thing since May, trying to get the original engine to run right, finally was able to swap the motor/trans/axle with one that did run right...now this. I missed an entire summer enjoying my cart. I’m hoping this current problem is a simple fix...otherwise I’m done with it. The next post you’ll see from me is a for sale post.

First thing, check your throttle linkage all the way to the carb and be sure it's doing what it's supposed to.

Not to insult you, but is the air box lid on correctly? Had a similar issue when I changed out an air filter and didn’t get the tabs on the bottom locked in. Too much air and it wouldn’t run at all without the choke.
