Default Compession test?

1995 295 Robbins. How do I do the compession test on this engine. Hot or cold? And for how long? Thanks.

Cold is fine, choke open, throttle wide open, remove both spark plugs (so it will crank a little faster), make sure battery is well charged, 5 seconds of cranking

Thanks for the replys. I done a test the other day with a cold engine and both plugs out but I didn't pull the choke. I done the test maybe 5 seconds and came up with 142 and a 148. It just seemed like if I would have done it longer than 5 seconds it would have went higher than the 142 and 148. I will do it again with the choke open. Once again, thanks.

He didn't mean pull the choke, he meant the choke butterfly should be open, you did it right. Now you cold pour a tablespoon of engine oil down each plug hole and do the test again. The oil will add an extra seal to the pistons so if the compression goes up you can see if the bores are worn however with the numbers you have you are not in bad shape.
