Drive clutch cover removal

Trying to remove the drive clutch cover without taking the clutch off the cart. I have tried every way I can think of to get it off, but I keep running into the rear axle tube. Any tricks?

If its' the Large-Cover style,remove the center-bolt,then remove the 3 small cover-bolts.There is a small amount of spring-tension,nothing dangerous,but be ready for it.You may have to loosen the engine cradle to swing-arm bolts and jack the motor up a bit for the cover to come off.Hope this helps.

Pachanga is on the money. If you remove the rear passenger wheel you will see the engine frame bolt mount. Undo this and then you can jack the engine up a few inches until it clears the axle tube.

Pachanga, I managed to get the cover off. I am trying to shim the clutch which is why I wanted to take it off. I got a 1-1/8 u bolt washer from a local shop. When I put the washer onto the shaft, it is quite loose. I'd say its got about a 1/8" of play. From looking at your pics of the shims in your other clutch shim thread, it doesn't look like you have hardly any wiggle room. Yours looks like a nice snug fit. Just wondering how tightly the washers fit onto the shaft. I don't want this thing rattling around, or causing a balance issue. Does the spring hold enough tension to keep the washer from wiggling around during operation? By the way, I tried a 1" washer. It didn't fit. Ran to two different suppliers in my area and nobody has this "odd-ball" size.

Thanks to both of you! Do you mean unbolting the engine from the cart itself?

Are you referring to the bolt that is just in front of the shock?

The engine bolts to a square frame and that frame is bolted to the swing arm. Between the the frame and the swing arm are the rubber mounts that absorb the vibration. The rear passenger one is the one I removed when I had to pull my clutch in situ.

Our posts crossed in the ether but yes that is the one. Remove it and you can jack the engine a few inches until the clutch will clear the axle. Don't go crazy here as you will strain the other mounts.
