Default Yamaha G1 quit, blows positive fuse even with switch off.

I volunteer at a county fair and a fellow board member brought me a Yamaha G1. He said it just quit. I don't know where to start to troubleshoot this as it will blow a 20 amp fuse as soon as contact is made. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

I have checked the wires for obvious shorts, grounding, or abrasion but can see nothing.

Does it blow the fuse in forward and reverse?
BTW, that should be a 10amp fuse.

Sorry, I just re-read your title.
If it does it with the key off, and the pedal not pressed, I would suspect something is up with the R/W wire going to the footswitch.

Thanks for the reply 1989 Marathon,
Sorry for delay, another member has dead Harley I was looking at.

I was wrong about the positive fuse I posted. When I looked at the r/w wire I found the fuse that blows is the -. It goes from CDI module to black wire that goes to lower left small terminal on outer solenoid. I assume this might mean a bad CDI?

I would grab the schematic from the stickies above, and find all the devices that the black wire from the negative fuse is connected to. I would disconnect them all, replace the fuse and see if it blows. If it does, it is likely a harness issue. If it doesn't, connect one device at a time and see when the fuse blows.

What's going on at the fairgrounds? I was just there a couple weeks ago for the gun show.

This week, we have a 4-h horse camp. About 38 young people learning how to ride in the various competitions. They will be here until Thursday.
I am here until after the fair, just getting ready with lawn, grounds, and of course, golf carts.
