Question 1982 G1 Dual Solenoid, how can I check

Hello , I started referring to the "Sticky" So your Yami won't start, But it is for Yamahas with a single solenoid. My 1982 G1 has 2 solenoids,
one forward/one reverse. Can anyone explain how to check solenoid output. I have good voltage, and the solenoids click, so I would like to check their output. The "sticky" My Yami won't start, was helpful BUT the colors of the wires does not match my model.

Thank You in advance for any help

Here's the wiring diagram if it will help...

The test procedure would be the same.

I have the correct wiring diagram, but it does not indicate what should be hot or not, when the pedal is pressed or released.

Thanks for your input

1982, J17 solenoids have 4 large posts, 2 forward, 2 rearward. The solenoid tells you witch is "normally open" and "normally closed" (unlike aftermarket ones that are backwards). If the solenoid "clicks" it means the wiring to "energize" the solenoid is good, but the contacts are damaged internally. You can use your volt meter to check voltage on the "normally closed" side to see if power is getting to the starter. I have also found the main battery cable "12 volt positive" can melt off at the starter/generator feild stud. PS, I like how you asked nicely, sometimes if questions don't get awnsered....things can go BAD.

Take them off and take apart and clean up the contacts they get burnt of time if its "clicking" dirty contacts may not be conducting electricity

Ok, The starter /generator has 4 large wires (A1,A2 & F1,F2) , I am getting current readings on all 4 wires, "Regardless of key or accelerator pedal position".

On the Start/Stop Switch I have 4 wires (W, R/W & B, B/W),
The red/white is Hot all the time, The white is hot when ACC/pedal is depressed, regardless of key position (Fwd, center & Rev). And the other 2 wires never test Hot.

Thank for all of the Help, it is very much appreciated

The forward solenoid will have 2 small wires (yellow-12 volts positive/black 12 volts negative) with volt meter on these leads, key switch in forward, pedal pushed, you should read 12 + volts. If so, every thing good up to the solenoid. Reverse, same thing but light blue and black wires. Key in reverse, push the pedal ect. If 12 volts on both and solenoids click, I would rotate the engine and see if it turns over. If so, definatly time to pull the starter and check the brushes and comutator. Good luck!
