Default Help Diagnosing poor running Yamaha G1

Ok I would really appreciate some help from the kind folks here. I recently bought a 1992 Par Car that has a G1 Yamaha motor placed in it. When I first got the cart, it would only run with the throttle out and had to run full out (till the governor kicked in which made it lunge). I ordered a new carburetor (aftermarket) and put it on and now it wants to flood out and sometimes wont move forward without dying. It has a oil drip I notice when I pull it out of the garage....drips about 18" apart. What do you guys think? I don't know how to adjust the carb properly, and maybe that would help, but it has that leak and Im wondering if the crankcase seals need to be replaced too. Any ideas? Thanks for your help. Coop

I would start by checking compression

If it only runs with the choke pulled out, then it is probably the crank seals, very common on these engines. Compression test may not show this. Also the oil leaks are likely from the seals, basically either side of the engine at the crank. Look behind the clutch where the crankshaft is, there is probably a lot of oil there.
