Is there a way to tell if my engine has the automatic pressure release?

Without ACR - 156 psi
With ACR - 71 psi
But, will be less depending on age and wear of the engine.

There are 2 ways...
  • If your cart is a "key start" cart from the factory, in most cases it will have an ACR.
  • Newer Kawasaki engines for pedal start carts will have a yellow, "W/O ACR" sticker on top of the engine in plain view.

I probably have ACR then... My cart is a 2008, keyed ignition, with Kawasaki. I haven't found the yellow sticker anywhere, but I guess it could have been removed at some point. It currently has 2004 hours on it.

I would figure that either way 35 PSI isn't enough?

When testing the compression... did you hold the GO pedal to the floor while cranking it?
If not... you'll need to!

I think the pedal was to the floor, but I did have my 8 year old son pushing it while I was reading. I will try again this evening and make sure it is all the way down when testing.

I found the "w/o ACR" sticker Ran the compression test again and the range is between 25-35 PSI. Looks like I'm in trouble...

Any suggestions on where to go from here? Should I go to a small engine shop and have top end rebuilt or just swap out with new engine? I'm not sure of expected cost to rebuild, but I did see that Vegas Carts has their 460cc for $600 and also found an Ironton 420cc engine at Northern Tool for $250. I'm just looking for any input or experience that some of you can offer. Thanks.

Slow down speed racer have you checked valve lash yet? Low compression can by cause by valve lash to tight not allowing valve to close all the way

Update: I pulled the valve cover and both valves are all the way out. I'm getting blow by. If I press the valves down by hand and try to turn it over it wants to start. I'm thinking I may have a bad cam or something along that line...
