How are you going to be using your cart? For me, that's the most important thing. I have a mix of gas and electric carts. The brands really don't matter for this conversation. Here are my experiences:

I have kids who are in or nearing their teens. All of my carts are in a campground where there are lots of other kids / people. They drive the carts so much that it's pretty normal for the electric carts to have be "taken out of service" by me to allow them to charge up some. Obviously, we don't have that problem with the gassers. That being said, the gassers need more TLC then then electric ones do. I have had to do more than a few "tows of shame" in the camp (towing a broken down cart with a running cart). At least in my experience, sparkys don't break down as much as gassers do and generally require far less attention.

All that said, I think how you intend to use the cart should dictate which one to get. Need a cart for an occasional cruise where you'll have plenty of time to keep it charged? The sparky is probably the way to go. Is the cart going to be driven a ton? The gasser is probably the way to go.

Well brought the Gasser Home....

so a 2008 Club Car DS is not sitting on my back patio !!

we got there and friend wanted to validate compression, so we pulled plug and hooked up the gauge, and turned it over, kicked out around 155 psi on several different test tries !! per factory should be 156 psi, so can not complain there at all !!

will take some pictures when i get some time, and will do a complete once over soon... too darn cold right now, an can not get it in the garage till the 1929 goes back on all fours !! currently up on stands by the door :/

Nooooooo!
Don't put the 29 outside, I really should come up there and take that off your hands LOL, I promise not to put a souped up 6.2 supercharged in it.....
You won't be disappointed with the car that you chose great decision, word of advice, the budget thing doesn't really work as the cart comes together it starts off casual, a lift kit here, wheels and tires there, maybe a rear back seat, in the next thing you know you're attending a Carts Anonymous meeting....
My name is Project Club Car, it has been 3 days 18 hours 6 minutes and 45 seconds since I last made a purchase......
Always something...... And the worst thing you could do is talk to your buddy into buying one, then the competition is really on.........

lol, the 29 does not go out unless it is clear & sunny...
hope to have that back on the road by mid next year, that will be 5 years !!

I figure the Club Car will fall in the same category, no budget, tinker, play and enjoy. get it ruuning good and enjoy it while i plan my rebuild of it. only problem is doing the 29 is easy i knew i was going original as possible, so there were no choices of which lift kit, how much lift, which tires do i want on which rims. what color do i wan, which body do i want, nerf, push, bumper ?? decisions decisions !!

will it ever be done, nahhh like the 29 will always be something going on and being done to it.

Hello BearsFan315,

Congratulations on getting your cart. I envy you. I rather enjoy a good coincidence; they are fun. That, and my wife says it's always wise to never go around acting like a jackass because somebody knows somebody who knows somebody who knows you and it'll circle back to bite you in the backside.

The coincidence: We have something in common. I am restoring a 1931 Chevy and the same man who did your interior (Ted) got me a great price on my interior kit during the time he had your car in his shop. I believe he dropped your car off and picked up a car (a'30) not 25mi. from me; the owner of which I've never met in person. But, that man turns out to be a Gettysburg enthusiast like me (he does re-enactments there and I volunteer there), we're the same age and might possible share some ancestry. I joined this golf cart forum practically the same time you did (I beat you by two days!) because I too am looking for a golf cart; to keep in my plane hangar and to take along to Oshkosh every summer for camping at the aviation event.

Ted and a couple others on the old chevy forums were terrific with help and advice. But, I must say, on first impression, that the golf cart people here seem to be a little bit less uptight and stuffy than the car people. Admittedly, there is quite a bit more free-wheelin' and leeway with the cart world but everyone I've read here, everyone who's responded to my posts and everyone who's PMed me has been exceedingly pleasant and helpful. Some of the car people seem slightly curmudgeonly and authoritative unlike even the "experts" here. Just my two-cents worth and not to in any way denigrate the car people but the cart people here seem like a friendly bunch of good-ole-boys and I mean that in the most complimentary way. But don't our chevys (your '29 and my '31) seem a lot more straightforward and less confusing than the golf carts; that is, so long as we keep our cars original the path is pretty clearly defined? I had no idea there was so much variability, interest, enthusiasm, participation and expertise concerning golf carts. It's been a great learning experience even if I never find a cart.

Meanwhile, I'm enjoying my search for a cart and the people I'm "meeting" here. And if Ted ever finds himself back in PA for some reason I owe him a plane ride for all the thoughtfulness he's shown me.

Best Regards,

Tom

I agree Tom, you never know who knows who, and one of them may know you !!

Ted is a great guy and everyone loves the work he did on my interior and my roof. I hope to have it running and back on the street this spring.

Yes this golf cart forum is more general, in that you have 3 big brands, and a few smaller brands all in one. everyone supports everyone else, maybe a little razz here and there but all in good fun. The VCCA is a great site, and it is DEDICATED to restoring Chevrolet's back to their original. if you need to replace a part there is usually only ONE part you can use/ get. there are not really other options, upgrades, etc when restoring. it is very challenging and tedious, but i like the kind of thing. the golf cart is more for fun. not sure where it will end up but it will be sitting next to my 1929 and at the shows with it as well, i will be driving it around the fields working and helping.

now to find a specialist who can fab me a replica body for the club car to match the 1929 !! body style & color
