S/g help needed
2000 gas carryall. No voltage change while running. Batteries are at 11.71. Replaced voltage regulator. No change. Disconnected v/r yellow wire and jumped df to ground. No change. New brushes. S/g doesn’t have any ohm reading from body housing to all terminals. Nothing burnt inside s/g. How do I bench test s/g? Or if I install back into vehicle, how do I test output voltage on s/g? Will the low battery cause s/g not
To put out? Thanks Wires as a1 to f1 A2 ground F2 white Df yellow Last edited by Sudsmcduff; 08-05-2019 at 05:19 PM.. Reason: Added |

Re: S/g help needed
If you grounded the yellow wire it should jump to about 17v maxing out the field. If theres no change, you'll need to replace it or have it rebuilt by a.reputable shop (which may be difficult.to find). I'd just get a new one personally, it's not much more than rebuilding it. Just make sure to get an OEM part, not one of the $100 aftermarket units.

Re: S/g help needed
Is this a "key start" cart (idles at rest)? If so, can you confirm the solenoid is staying engaged while running - not just when starting? The solenoid is also the return path from the generator back to the battery.

It is pedal start. The previous owner disconnected micro switch lead behind f/r switch so that it always stays running. Thanks for pointing that out. I will check solenoid

Re: S/g help needed
Seems like the generator field wire is open internally.
Grounding the DF terminal should force it to full output which can be over 18V at full throttle. If the voltage does not go up at all there's a problem in the SG. You can open it up and make sure the brushes are OK and the wire going to the DF terminal is not broken, but if there's an internal open in the field winding that's not fixable. I recommend getting a quality Original Club Car Starter generator. They are far superior to the other options on the market. Get in touch with David at Revolution Golf cars for the best price on OE parts. |
