You could try and place the handle of a hammer on the piston. Hit the hammer with your palm firmly, but not too hard. See if you can get the piston to move down and see the cylinder wall. Pics help, press the "go advanced" below where you type and use the paper clip icon to attach an image

Good news is, your older club car was a counterclockwise rotating engine. So it's not a horribly difficult swap to drop in a VC460 or a predator 420 motor. Unlike the 97 and up, your shifter wouldnt be backwards. So theres always options to get it back up and running that wont break the bank, even if the motor isnt worth rebuilding, and I'm sure there are parts on that motor that are hard to find, that could be sold on Ebay to cover some of the $ going to the new motor

Cheaper than buying a new cart!
