Default Re: G1: how much lift?

With both the stock and 8hp Briggs I had to dent the frame for clutch clearance after the lift. I used the stock G1 clutches on both engines, using a taper adapter I made on the 8hp.

I exchanged the rear differential from a G2 but used the axles and axle housings from the G1 on it. This allowed me to bolt the G2 rear right in where I removed the G1.

This did however move the driven clutch to the drivers side of the cart a bit more which caused it to interfere with the swing arm. So I used small spacers under the mounts to raise it a bit and did also dent the swing arm slightly to give the clutch clearance.

I'm still using the G1 driven clutch on the G2 rear end and it's been working fine.

I am however in the middle of an engine change right now and am installing a 25hp Kawasaki engine in the cart. I'm going to see if the G1 clutch works and if I have any problems, I'll then install a G2 driven clutch that I have here which is being saved for a G2 build that I'm stockpiling parts for.

The angle of the sheave faces on the G1 and G2 are similar, if not the same. Unless you are running a machined clutch/performance type. I am using the Plowman's G1 clutch in my Vtwin cart and it does very well. My clutch is from the G1 but my trans is from the G2. Bolted right up, fits perfect, and works perfectly. I am running a stock G1 spring, however, and it likely needs replaced since it's original and has prob lost it's "spring". But still not problems. I think you'll find that either clutch will work well. I will say that the Plowman's performance clutch works better for hill climbing and towing. I actually did both recently. I towed a 700 lb trailer, with a 700 lb cart on it, 1 mile uphill from a friends house, on the road. The cart struggled only to get traction in the snow, but once on the road it got up to 25mph easily and maintained that speed uphill until I got to my house. This is not a "steep" hill, but it's a hill that you would struggle to ride a bike up without going into low gear and standing on the pedals. Steep enough. That engine/clutch combo is outstanding!

How do you stretch the front out a couple of inches. A G9 that I purchased already had a 4" lift on it, with 20" tires. If I left turn to the lock, the 20"ers rub the floor pan when my heavy butt is in the seat. Thought about refab-the lift plates in the front to have more offset. Is there another way?

I built it into my lift. You would most likely have to do some fab work to move the wheels forward. It partially depends on what lift you have and how it's made.

Thanks Dawg - it appears as if it's the 4" economy lift like from BU. The plates that lower the A arms have about a 1" offset or so to push them forward.

I think I need another 1 to clear when make that hard left turn. I will look at it later tonight or tomorrow and see if that will cause any other problems.
