Default Engine ID?

I have a 1995 Medalist that needs an overhaul. I was told by the previous owner that the engine is not the original. How do I tell what I have?
Thanks,
Wayne

Is it safe for me to assume that all 295's use the same parts regardless of when they were made?
Thanks again,
Wayne

Yes all of the then use the same rebuild parts .... I have seen subtle differences in the valve tappets etc but nothing major I know of ... Do you need an engine rebuild kit?

Yes, It uses oil and belches the dreaded blue smoke. How much should I plan to spend on a rebuild kit? Best place to buy, of course? How much of this can I not do without specailized tools?

You will need some specialized tools ... snap ring pliers, ring compression tool, torque wrench, etc.... any sponsor can supply the aftermarket kits or shop ezgo link can hook you up with OEM parts. PM me if you want more info.
