Re: 1st Cart, G1 get me started...
My friend just sent me an email and said a tire is going flat and he found the oil pump lines cut and golf tees stuck in the llines....Well what should I expect for a 30 year old machine...

Re: 1st Cart, G1 get me started...
If the oil lines are cut, be SURE to pre-mix oil with the gas! The G1 is a 2-stroke cart.
You probably already know this, but I'd hate to see anybody fry a good engine! |

Yes we have been going through the board and looking for fuel mixes this evening...My friend is convinced that oil pumps are evil devices to never ever be trusted as engines will instantly turn into a puddles of molten metal if the pump is used.

Re: 1st Cart, G1 get me started...
LOL,
Considering that oil injection has been around for at least 40 years, I would have to say the technology is proven. The only problem is there buggies are about 25 years old, and parts do wear out. There are still a lot of machines running around out there with their pumps still working, though. If you want to premix here you go: http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/gas-y...g-fuel-g1.html http://www.ultralighthomepage.com/OIL/oil.html You got a smokin' deal on your buggy, by the way. Congrats. |

Just for my two cents for whatever its worth. I have had a friends jet ski seize due to an oil pump line being old and cracking. I always bypass the old oil pumps and run pre mix in the older skis. Probably 99% unwarrented but it makes me feel better. I vote for premix!

honestly i do too. nothing wrong with premix i use it on my sled but that way you KNOW what the mix is and can more easily adjust it.

Re: 1st Cart, G1 get me started...
Next question for this cart.
Looks like the Allsport 4 inch lift is the best for this a car and won't require a frame cut to use. What do you guys suggest for rims and tire with this lift and car combination. I want just standard type rims, no chrome or fancy. The cart will be driven over wheat stubble, loose dirt and through tall weeds and some water crossings. There will also be some side hilling and rolling prairie, but no long steep grades. Advice? |

I will be replacing the allsport lift on my Geep1 with the Jake's, it is much stronger and better made. |

Re: 1st Cart, G1 get me started...
6 inch lift requires frame notching doesn't? I don't want that.
I don't really want a great deal of lift anyway---just enough to not drag on gopher and badger holes. Here's where I will be driving the cart. For a real feel of this country click on this link;http://www.fototime.com/A04FC56396AD8CE/orig.jpg Isn't there some issues with fit of the steering knuckle/spindles with early G1 and Jakes? I will be watching your progress on the upgrade, so if the are any problems we all know.... I can do drop in fit and finish, but fabricating skills are real limited. |

Re: 1st Cart, G1 get me started...
1979-81 G1's had different spindles and hubs than 1982-up did. the later spindles were bigger and stronger, and also had bolt-on knuckles. The Jakes kit is designed for you to replace the old knuckles with ones from the kit to keep the steering tie rods level. If your buggy still has the original spindles, your options are to get a set of 1982-up spindles and hubs(they must be replaced as a set- old hubs will not fit on new spindles or vice versa) or weld and modify your old spindles to work. You seem reluctant to do this, but here is what the mods might look like.
