Re: Engine help (seized) G9
I would go the desert golf first. Then if they can't help, go to Baskos. Baskos will be good, but maybe more expensive!
I'm not an engine builder, but I believe it has to be bored and new piston to be any good. You also need to take a good look at bottom end. Piston and ring set is not expensive. Then I would also ask someone about 3 angle valve job, or light unshrouding the valves for a bit more power, since its all apart. Make this work as an asset for you not just the same old thing!! I agree with Sho. |

Re: Engine help (seized) G9
I can't beleive how "unslugged" the rocker arm assy is and how uncarboned the piston top is Was it smokeing? Did it use alot of oil? Did it just get run out of oil? Any time you have a "seized" engine, there has to be some damage, IE: rod to crank , crank bearings or in the J38 engine, the balancer to the block journal (very bad!). Must be taken apart and inspected. I would think if you have the engine out, tore down so the shop just has to pull the clutch fixed sheave, side case, remove cam/balance and piston rod assy, then check the cylinder, the shop minimum should be about right 30.00 to 45.00 to give you a insight to you next move. I know...just my 2 cents worth. Good luck on what ever you decide.

Re: Engine help (seized) G9
One I looked at was smoking for a while and piston didn't have much carbon on it, plug was really black though and valve.

Re: Engine help (seized) G9
Ok so i just heard, that the bearings are shot the rods are screwed and the inside looks like a bomb went off, or as the mechanic says "it looks ugly in there" So i guess i'll be upgrading to a clone or aftermarket engine! hope there not to hard to fab up, im sure ill be starting a new thread with questions, but ill be looking and searching for other peoples upgraded engines. Thanks to everyone that has helped me out in this matter, it lasted a long time for the years of abuse im sure.

Re: Engine help (seized) G9
You still want to know if the crank is hurt. The rest is still not that expensive. Did Desert look at it?

Re: Engine help (seized) G9
Well stay cool up there, cause its hot here!! When you get back, I would take it to Desert, cause you need to find out about the balancer journals (via Smallblock), probably the cam journals/bearings as well, and see if the crank is scored.
I have read people on here type about taking the balancer out, but I don't really know if someone has actually tried it, and what the results were. Can those journals be sleeved, or is it not cost effective? Buddy, I've been no help at all, I've just offered suggestions. The Big Guys on here know what is actually possible. Good luck, Mike |

Re: Engine help (seized) G9
Wow I looked at a stock G9 head last weekend no wonder they can't breath, the exhaust port is TINY. I was told you have to weld them up to hog them out, and need a cam custom made to get them to run well anyway. That one was burning oil but still ran fine, it was not carboned up like you would think. Some in the exhaust port and plug would foul at times the rest looked normal. I have to find his ignitor and see if it makes mine run different.

Re: Engine help (seized) G9
Ya Sho, but it has to be a certain % of the intake port. Thats why it has to be flowed. Hot gasses flow better than cold gasses. I was just thinking about unshrouding valves, then mill the head, to try to get maybe 9 to 1 compression? Maybe its not doable. Maybe lighten the flywheel? Shmo and Rocrlr may be able to help here.
We should be starting a new thread on this sub. if we are to pursue this. |
