Default G1 steering box adjustment (1984)

Hi all, My first post. Seems that i have a lot of play in the steering box and would like to know if there is an adjustment i can make to limit this. The play is noticed when moving the steering arms side to side, this is transfered to a vertical movement within the steering box. I am currently replacing the king pins and bushings and would like to take care of the steering box while i have the cart up on stands. Is it possible to download the shop manual from somewhere? so far i have only been able to obtain the owners manual. Thanks in advance for the help.

Best I can recommend....take the 10mm head bolts and top plate off, pack the steering box with grease and reinstall the top plate. Withe the car jacked up, loosen the jam nut on the pitman adjustment screw, turn it in about a 1/4 turn, then use your finger to turn the seering wheel from lock to lock. You can keep turning in the screw till you feel a "bind" as you turn the wheel. Then back off the screw till there is no "binding". Sorry to say you will always have some play with a worm shaft/pitman style steering assy. Good luck on your project.

Thanks for your reply smallblock, soon as my king pins and bushings arrive i will install them and then try to take out some of the play in the steering box. While the cart is up on stands i checked out every thing and found some more work, the motor mount tensioner is missing so will replace it along with the motor mounts plus replace the secondary clutch ramp shoes. Also noticed the brake pedal return spring was broken and guess the brakes were dragging a bit as the left front brake shoe was worn down to the 1mm wear limit. Nothing real serious considering the age of the cart, previous owner did a lot of work and with the forum members help i will get it back to 100%.
