2004 yamaha gmax Problem??
I have a 2004 yamaha gmax that I bought a couple years ago. I put a jakes 6 inch lift kit with 22 inch wheels on in when I bought it. also put a rear seat and door works cover on it. after driving it daily for the past couple years, lately ive noticed its really smelly when I drive it. i checked the oil and it smells like it has gas in it. so I changed the oil and rebuilt the carb. it still is really smelly when I drive it. any ideas what it could be? thanks for any help.

Re: 2004 yamaha gmax Problem??
How much time? I changed the oil and rebuilt the carb a couple months ago and I drive it everyday. I thought the same thing but it seems to be doing the same thing. Ill have to check the oil again tomorrow to see if it has gas in it again.

Tucks, oil, only one quart. Also wonder if the fuel pump diaphram is punchured and bleeding fuel into the crank case.

I did think of that also. I took the hose off going from the pump to the crankcase to see if there was any fuel in there but it was dry and didn't even smell like fuel. But I will check it again tomorrow also. Just to make sure. thanks for the suggestions.

Re: 2004 yamaha gmax Problem??
Update: I changed the oil again and it was completely white and smelled like gas. I pulled the carb again and everything looked fine. No gas in the pump line to the engine. I'm lost. Any ideas?

Re: 2004 yamaha gmax Problem??
Really only 2 way's gas can get into the crankcase, float needle sticking or thru the fuel pump. I'd bet the float has a hole in it (very unlickly) or the needle is sticking. With the "ethenol" gas we get now, it just atracks moisture and causes corrossion that can make the "needle" stick.

Re: 2004 yamaha gmax Problem??
I guess ill buy a new carb rebuild kit that replaces everything and see if that fixes it. The float does not have hole in it. I shook it and there was no fuel in it. it is plastic and have no adjustment on the float.

Tuck, I'd check the fuel pump system again. Seems to me that, that is more likely to have a problem than carb float or needle valve.
