Use of ATV shocks on my cart?
I have been wondering about this since I first drove my cart, it really feels unsafe while turning and I don't mean speed turns. It has the 6" lift with 22/11/12 tires, not sure about the offset but it's decent. It's just so soft even when I hauled it home on my trailer I had it strapped really good but watching it in the rear view mirror.. it looked like it was going to tip over, I couldn't believe it, had me worried and I'm no newby to strapping down toys. Is there anything besides shocks that would stiffen it up? Anyone ever use atv shocks?

Atv shock are usually just as soft since they are actually on a lighter weight vehicle to begin with. I'm in the same boat with my front end now, just slightly to soft of spring rate and i'm going to do spring searching soon. I'll be using companies that make springs for atv's and racing to try and find one that will fit my cart shocks but not be to expensive either. good luck with search |

I put Can Am shocks on my lifted G16. Was still too soft in the rear so I bumped up to RZR rear shocks. Yamaha was nice since it came stock with coilovers so the mounting points were already there. Just measured the desired length and compared weights of my cart and atvs I was planning to use.

Look at the utility quads and side by sides. They weigh more than our carts!

Re: Use of ATV shocks on my cart?
McMasters has springs for G9 I think it is. There is a thread on it you can remove the springs and put new ones on. The newer carts that articulate the rear suspension are more tippy, its not always nice. Some carts are just lifted too high and people think it looks cool, but the hot setup is just high enough to fit the tires....for trail use.

Re: Use of ATV shocks on my cart?
I put a set of honda ATV springs on mine, and one ride, I took them off and bought the heavy duty springs from Jakes. The cart was WAY too dangerous with soft springs. With the Jakes springs, it rides great.

Re: Use of ATV shocks on my cart?
You guys are right.. The atv shocks would be to soft considering their a whole lot lighter. I'll have to check around and see what I can find, maybe just try and replace the springs for stiffer ones.

Re: Use of ATV shocks on my cart?
Rather than ATV, think UTV. Or at least one of the big heavy quads.
The Terra Toys IFS on mine has Kawasaki Teryx front shocks on it, set to their softest setting. Seems to do pretty well. Not sure what is on the rear..... coilover shocks & EZGo HD leaves. It's entirely too stiff though. I've considered the Jakes' 3 link rear. Wondering if it is even 1/2 as tough as the setup Scotty built. |
