Default 295cc Head Torque Problems

I have a 295cc Robin out of a 96 Workhorse. I torque the bolts to 16.6 ft/lb on the 1st pass and the bolts stretched. I ordered new bolts from ez-go and they are doing the same thing. Has anybody run into this before?

How do you know they stretched?

Because the main thing is they never seem to become tight, then when you remove the bolt and examine it the thread pattern is the same at the bottom but thread pitch increases as it gets closer to the head.

Have you used a pitch gage to check the threads?
It is hard to imagine a head bolt stretching at such a low torque. I would suspect that the torque wrench is not working correctly.

No pitch gauge but I do have a new M8 X 1.25 bolt and the threads match for maybe the 1st inch and then do not mesh after that. You can visibly see the difference in the thread pitch as it gets closer to the head of the bolt.

16.6 ft/lb is a pretty light torque. I would definately check the wrench.
