89 ezgo exhaust pipe length and size

The exhaust dumps under the side of the cart and the fumes are bad.
Can it be extended out from under the cart? If so, how long can it be extended without effecting performance? What size pipe should be used?

They say that the back pressure is important but I see no reason you could not put a larger tail pipe on the end and run it anyplace you like as it would not back pressure.
